In exchange for breaking federal law, protecting criminal illegal aliens, and allowing violent leftist mobs, corrupt politicians are trying to reward these localities with $100M. Of course, it would be expected that radical Democrats would be behind something like this but RINO State Rep. Dave Baker (16B) is joining in to support the legislation!

This bill, HF4477, would spend $100M giving grants to businesses “adversely affected by activities and events related to increased immigration in Minnesota beginning December 1, 2025”. This money will not be evenly distributed across Minnesota, bill authors say that they want 80% to go to the Metro area and say that Baker agreed to that split!

This bill received its first hearing in the House Labor Committee, of which Baker is a co-chair, on April 8th and featured testifiers like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Vang Her complaining about the economic impact of deportations conducted by ICE in Minnesota. While pointing no blame at sanctuary city policies or leftist riots in the streets, Democrats want Minnesota taxpayers to bail out the twin cities. 

While a couple of Republicans asked about the potential for fraud, only one truly took it to Democrats and EVISCERATED their insane proposal. GOP Rep. Isaac Schultz (10B) took the bill authors to task and exposed their corrupt, pro-illegal alien, leftist agenda while Democrats Cedrick Frazier (43A) and Jay Xiong (67B) arrogantly pretended their proposal was non-political. Schultz wisely pointed out that taxpayers received no relief for Feeding Our Future which cost MN more tax dollars the supposed impact of Metro Surge. See at marked timestamp below below:

The bill was tabled in this committee so no vote was taken. The subject matter of the bill was then mentioned at the House Ways and Means Committee on April 13th where Mayors Her and Frey again testified, with Frey ironically calling ICE deportations an unconstitutional invasion. RINO Dave Baker took this time to suck up to Frey, let Frey trash ICE, let Frey pretend riots weren’t going on, prop up the leftist bailout plan, and even calling Minneapolis the “most amazing city in the state of Minnesota”! Baker also admitted that he hires illegal aliens in his business since he says he lost housekeepers (likely from the hotel he owns) due to ICE deportations in Minnesota. One has to wonder if Baker plans on getting one of the business grants he is helping create with this program.

Also in the Ways and Means committee, Baker made a fake capitalist argument by pointing out the economic impact of paid family medical leave but then implied that ICE deportations were another government imposed mandate. If the government imposing its will is the problem with the economy, then why would Baker’s solution be more government and bailouts? See the pathetic back and forth at the marked timestamp below:

A final version of the bill has not yet been completed so it may end up costing MORE than $100M!

There does not appear to be any other Republican who is openly supporting this legislation as of now. Since Republicans control the gavel in the House and can block bills if they vote as a block, this bill can be KILLED if RINO Dave Baker corrects course!

Baker has been a State Rep for over a decade and received a pathetic score of 29.17% in the 2025 A4L Scorecard and has a FAILING lifetime A4L score of 46.42%. This means Baker is more likely to vote for big government/less liberty than he is to vote against it on critical votes!
