Wright County Votes to Defund Flock Cameras, Other MN Counties/Cities Must Take Action

The land of the free was never meant to be a police state. One of the most dangerous ways that the government has expanded mass surveillance is with Flock cameras. These cameras are used to warrantlessly capture and store the data of license plates of all passing vehicles and provide mass video surveillance. While corrupt government officials have allowed this to go on, Wright County Commissioners voted 4 to 1 to defund the Flock camera program due to pressure from grassroots citizens.

As seen in the 8/18/26 Wright Co. Commissioner meeting (starting around the 21 minute mark), a vote was held on a formal request to the sheriff to have no funding for Flock cameras in the 2027 budget. It was noted in the meeting by Commissioner Chair Darek Vetsch that this request had no statutory or legal requirement for the county sheriff to abide by this motion. He further called the motion “political grandstanding” and urged for collaboration with the sheriff. One commissioner also stated that they have been trying to get this issue onto the agenda for 3 weeks.

Despite the discussion and vote on the Flock camera issue, the issue was not listed on the meeting agenda. The issue appears to have been spearheaded by Commissioners Jeanne Holland and Nadine Schoen. Only Commissioner Tina Diedrick voted no.

Wright County Sheriff Sean Deringer was not at the 8/18/26 meeting but it was said that he will be at the upcoming 8/25/26 meeting where Flock cameras will again be discussed. Since Flock cameras are in use in Wright County, it is fair to assume that Sheriff Deringer supports their use. It was said in the meeting that Sheriff Deringer was in communication with Flock’s CEO.

As discussed in previous A4L reporting, the CEO of Flock is a Globalist who wants to eliminate prisons. He wants criminals on the streets so regular citizens demand public safety, thus creating a desire for mass surveillance. Even if the CEO of Flock had the best of intentions, spying on law-abiding citizens is antithetical to what America is supposed to be all about.

Chair Vetsch also admitted in the Commissioner meeting that it was public pressure that caused action to finally take place! He specifically said about Sheriff Deringer that “He’s probably getting a lot of pressure, as we are with the public trust on it.”

Minnesota’s Department of Public Safety has published the locations of all Flock cameras in the state and the county or city that is authorizing their use. That listing can be viewed here.

Counties and cities across Minnesota should take action to protect the individual liberties of their constituents. Flock cameras are dystopian and if people do not fight, they may not be able to fight again.

Action 4 lIberty will continue to provide Patriots with liberty-based reporting that cannot be found anywhere else.
