Anoka County’s Sheriff’s Office signed a $174,999 contract for Flock cameras, which happens to be $1 less than the threshold requiring public approval from the County Commissioners.

One of the most dangerous ways that the government has expanded mass surveillance is with Flock cameras. These cameras have been popping up around the country and are used to warrantlessly capture and store the data of license plates of all passing vehicles and provide mass video surveillance. The data is stored for 30 days and is cross-referanced with law enforcement hotlists. Flock devices are also capturing sound through always-listening microphones, which they say is to locate gunshots or distress. While supporters argue the cameras help police identify criminals, opponents argue that all citizens are being treated as criminals.

The United States was never meant to be a police state. There are cameras all over prisons because they are occupied by criminals. Law abiding citizens should not be subjugated to the same invasion of privacy. Many examples have emerged of police officers using Flock camera data to track ex-spouses, highlighting the clear danger of giving the government too much power. Data will be abused because corruption will always exist in government. In other instances, vehicles have been falsely identified or the wrong person will be ticketed. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has covered examples of surveillance abuses, proving how detrimental this technology can be.

This appears to be the case in Anoka County since the Flock camera contract signed by the county sheriff, Brad Wise, was made to deliberately bypass the approval process. The contract will expand the license plate capturing program and buy drones to overlook areas in which a 911 dispatch call was received.

Liberty lovers know that the use of surveillance technology will only make citizens less free and more afraid of the government. Nobody can be trusted with absolute power and the spying will only get worse if citizens do not push back. 

Flock Group Inc. is a private organization, which means all of the captured data is not only in the hands of the government, but also total unknowns. They argue their mission is to “eliminate crime”, which is of course impossible and can lead to complete tyranny to try to implement. Flock’s founder and CEO, Garrett Langley, previously called non-violent protesters of Flock “terrorists”. Additionally, Langley wants to release criminals from prison back onto the streets. Naturally, this would cause people to want more security and would benefit his spyware business.

The globalist, anti-freedom technocracy that elites want to impose on America undermines what the land of the free is supposed to be all about. Mass surveillance is antithetical to the liberties that Americans cherish and the sneaky tactics being used in Anoka County to spy on the citizens cannot be covered up. Handing power over from humans to computers that no discretion or understanding will always result in problems.
