Stop the mass surveillance of every driver on our roads by banning Flock Safety cameras and automated license plate readers. Ending warrantless tracking of law-abiding citizens is the one way to protect our right to privacy!
To Legislators:
Whereas, government has no legal authority to track the movements of law-abiding citizens without a warrant or individualized suspicion of a crime;
Whereas, Flock Safety cameras and similar automated license plate readers log every vehicle that passes, creating a permanent, searchable record of where residents work, worship, seek medical care, and go about their private lives;
Whereas, this data has been shared across jurisdictions and with outside agencies without residents' knowledge or consent, and installed in many communities without public hearings or a public vote;
Whereas, free people can be kept safe through targeted, constitutional policing without subjecting every driver to blanket surveillance;
THEREFORE be it resolved, We The People demand the Legislature ban the use of Flock Safety cameras and other mass-surveillance automated license plate readers by state and local government;
Be it further resolved, we demand a recorded vote on all motions and bills pertaining to this ban.
