As a parent of a child with an autoimmune disorder we have sheltered in place for 9 months. That is OUR choice to do so. I don’t need the government or some virtue signaling celebrity to tell me how to protect my family. Individuals that are vulnerable know how to protect themselves. We know more about the virus and have had all the necessary PPE and information to do so for months now. Let me be clear. We protect ourselves and our loved ones everyday, we have way before this virus even entered our country. It is an insult to our intelligence and our capabilities to destroy small businesses in the name of protecting us. I am signing this petition because I REFUSE to allow the overreach and power to continue in the false narrative of protecting us. Open the state. Open the schools. Talk with the population that needs protecting. Ask them how you can help. Do not continue to ignore that population while believing the blanket shelter in place emergency order is helping us. It is not. Closing everything down does nothing for us. We would have done that anyway, we will continue to do it until we feel it is safe for us. If you want to help us then give us an increase of funds in our waivered programs for things like delivery services, PPE expenses, allow paid parents of minors to submit hours during school, since we are all doing the work of teachers. These are just a handful of things that would actually help us if you would just ask. I’m not a victim. My family is doing our best and we are getting through this. But this closure does nothing for us except ruin the lives of our friends, family and neighbors who have been the ones helping us through this. You have failed to reach out and actually do the things that would get us through this. I’m done waiting for that day to happen. You’ve had plenty of time and now it’s time for Minnesotans to stand together and speak in one voice for me and my family.
