Anti-Freedom Uniparty Bans Predictive Betting Markets

Corrupt, tyrannical politicians think they know how you should spend your money better than you. The problem of big government is not just a Democrat problem; This is a Uniparty problem. On Tuesday, May 12th, the Minnesota House and Senate passed legislation that banned predictive betting markets.

The legislation, SF4760, is a multi-subject, 111 page, unconstitutional public safety policy omnibus bill that contains all kinds of provisions covering various subjects. Some of these provisions were neutral and mundane, some were good law, and some were big government nonsense. As we will focus on in this piece, this bill bans the ability for individuals to spend their own money as they see fit.

Websites like Kalshi, PredictIt, and Polymarket have become popular ways for individuals to put their money where their mouth is and bet on various happenings in sports, society, and politics. Interestingly, these websites are often more reliable than mainstream media polling since individuals are incentivized to accurately predict elections and events.

The vast majority of individuals who use predictive betting market websites are not doing so with an intent to gamble for a living. Instead, they are using their personal knowledge as a means to make some cash on the side. Minnesota citizens are not the children of the government, we do not need the permission of corrupt politicians to participate in consensual financial activity!

It is clear that Democrats and RINOs are interested in protecting the special interests of American Indian casinos and do not want to allow any competition. Our state prioritizes one racial group over all others on gambling issues, purely on the basis of race.

Zero Democrats voted to oppose this unconstitutional, anti-freedom omnibus bills. The only Republican author on this bill was RINO Paul Novotny (30B).

While Democrats make their subservience to American Indian special interests extremely obvious with cringe-worthy “land acknowledgements”, Republicans are also controlled by these casino special interests! As seen in the House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC) 2025 campaign finance report, they received $100,000 from the Prairie Island Indian Communities PAC and $85,000 from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux! See below:

RINOs are not going to fight for your interests when they are paid $185,000 to do otherwise!

In the House, nearly half of the Republican members voted against the unconstitutional omnibus bill. 34 voted for the bill, 32 voted no, and Marion Rarick (29B) abstained and was excused from part of the session. See vote below:

In the Senate, only 9 Republicans voted against this unconstitutional omnibus bill. See vote below:

Ironically, one of the crony politicians who was fighting to ban predictive betting markets was betting on himself on a predictive betting market! Democrat Senator Matt Klein (SD53) wants to strip the financial freedom of Minnesotans while he bet $50 on Kalshi that he would win the CD2 Democratic nomination. Klein was leading the market for a few days surrounding April 18-21 but dropped significantly after it was exposed that he bet on himself and after he lost the CD2 Democratic endorsement. Of course, Klein should be able to bet on himself winning and he should not feel entitled to strip the financial freedom of Minnesotans.

On the bright side, this bill is blatantly illegal and unenforceable. Predictive betting markets are governed federally by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and prohibitive state laws will be defeated in court. Unfortunately, this bill will cause radical socialist AG Keith Ellison to waste more tax dollars pursuing frivolous litigation to protect this anti-freedom law.

As mentioned previously, zero Democrats voted against the bill.
