Lobbyists and special interest groups love to buy off politicians so they can influence the government in ways regular citizens cannot. Some lobbyists and special interests target only one party’s candidates while others hedge their bets by funding both of the Uniparty candidates. We are seeing this take place in the Minnesota Governor race with Amy Klobuchar and Lisa Demuth sharing many special interest donors.
The stranglehold lobbyists and special interests have on politicians makes it clear why almost nothing changes in government regardless of the party in charge.
As seen in Demuth's and Klobuchar's September campaign finance reports, there are 14 special interest groups that are funding both Klobuchar and Demuth, often giving the same amount to both candidates. This includes the following political committees/funds:
BankIn PAC
Beer PAC
CAR, Committee of Automotive Retailers
Food PAC of Minnesota
Great River Energy Action Team - Minnesota
Laborers District Council of Minn & ND Pol Fund
Minnkato Power Action Committee
Minn AGPAC
MN Local Business Alliance PAC
Minnesota Retired Police Pension Association
Rice, Walther, & Mosley LLP Political Fund
Rural Electric Political Action Committee
Saint Paul Teachers Pension PAC
Stinson LLP Political Fund
Over half of the special interest groups that are funding Demuth’s campaign are funding Klobuchar’s campaign.
There are also four lobbyists who have donated to both Demuth and Klobuchar. This includes Joel Carlson, Judy Cook, Nancy Hoss, and Brian Rice.
Republicans and Democrats pretend to be enemies but they have the same bosses. Certain special interests make sure they are protected while grassroots citizens have to fend for themselves.
