Minnesota has a corrupt, Socialist public subsidy program that funnels millions upon millions of tax dollars to politicians to spend on their campaigns. This system protects crony politicians, often in safe districts that will not be flipped. Though candidates can opt out of the program, most politicians cannot avoid the financial temptation. In total, this corrupt program is costing taxpayers over $5 Million! To make matters worse, some politicians are getting tax dollars even though they are unopposed in the general election!
Democrats Omar Fateh (SD62), Mohamud Noor (60B), and Sebastian Ellefson (65B) are getting tax dollars despite having no general election opponent! Fateh got $21,007.83, Noor got $8,036.85 and Ellefson got $9,419.62. They received the money because they had a primary opponent, despite the money being given to them after the primary election.
There are six campaign finance reports not yet available including incumbent legislators Walter Hudson (30A) and Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley (38A). As of publishing, the CFB has confirmed with A4L that Hudson and Momanyi-Hiltsley have NOT turned in their reports or responded to requests from the CFB. All other legislators could meet the deadline but Hudson and Momanyi-Hiltsley seem to think they are above the rules.
The “pre-general election” campaign finance reports were released on 10/27/26 and these reports revealed which candidates received taxpayer dollars for their campaigns and how much of it they got. Politicians who opt into the public subsidy program must meet a set of fundraising requirements and agree to spending limits to receive the funds. This money for this program comes from MN’s political contribution refund program and income, sales, and property taxes found in Minnesota’s General Fund. See below:

The money given is not equal. Democrat Senate Majority leader Erin Murphy got the most in the Senate by receiving $28,924.72 while Democrat House Fraud Committee member Emma Greenman got the most in the House by receiving $11,641.94. See below:

In races where both the Republican and Democrat candidates received public subsidy money, Democrats got more money than their opponents in every single Senate race and all but seven House races.
As seen in previous A4L reporting, some statewide candidates already received public subsidy dollars. This includes Lisa Demuth receiving $1,293,702.93, Keith Ellison receiving $294,603.39, and Tad Jude and Scott Jensen receiving $147,851.75. Democrat Auditor candidate Zack Filipovich signed the public subsidy agreement but missed a deadline to receive the subsidy. Amy Klobuchar and Republican AG nominee Ron Schutz are the only statewide candidates who refused to sign the public subsidy agreement.
Action 4 Liberty has reviewed the campaign finance report for all statewide candidates and candidates in all 201 state legislative districts to calculate the damage that the public subsidy program has done to taxpayers. Excluding districts where the reports are not yet public, the total in State Senate races is $1,686,248.63 and the total in House races is $1,455,747.04.
The total amount of money spent funding statewide and legislative candidates with all available data is a whopping $5,026,005.49!
Most legislative districts are not competitive and heavily lean one way or the other. This means that politicians are raking in taxpayer money for their campaigns even though there is almost no chance of them losing!
In the Senate, there are only two Republican incumbents, Nathan Wesenberg (SD10) and Andrew Lang (SD16), who refuse to participate in the Socialist public subsidy program. SD3 leftist Sen. Grant Hauschild also does not participate in the program, likely due to spending limits as opposed to a principled stand against taxpayer funded political campaigns. The only other Senate candidates who have refused the public subsidy include Tom Dippel (SD41), Rick Olson (SD54), Raymond Petersen (SD56), and Toby Hesselgrave (SD67).
Senator Nathan Wesenberg tells A4L that he will propose legislation to eliminate the public subsidy program.
Incumbent State Rep. (41B) and Senate candidate (SD41) Tom Dippel has legislation to abolish the public subsidy and to abolish the PCR program.
Minnesota taxpayers are being ripped off and politicians are directly benefitting from taxpayer money. No tax dollar should ever be given to politicians for campaign purposes. The public subsidy program is maintaining the corrupt status quo by keeping big government politicians in power.
Action 4 Liberty will continue to provide Patriots with liberty-based reporting that cannot be found anywhere else.
