Duluth voters overwhelmingly rejected two term mayor Emily Larson, choosing former state senator Roger Reinert over her by 20 points. Larson had the who's who of endorsements from local legislators all the way up to Governor Tim Walz. She even had the endorsement of the typical Democrat organizational web.
Larson made headlines many times in her tenure as mayor, constantly moving the needle of Duluth's government further to the left. She instituted a useless mask mandate in the city as recently as 2022. Larson increased city taxes, hurting residents and the business community and making the city unaffordable for younger families. Plus, many viewed her failures to address the growing homeless problem as a reason to go a different direction.
With 100% of precincts reporting, Reinert won the election by 5,802 votes. Larson has conceded.
