Homeless Walz Moving Into Republican's Luxury Home on Taxpayers' Dime

On Monday, MPR News reported that the State of Minnesota has secured a rental property for Governor Walz ahead of the $6 million renovation of the Governor’s Mansion. According to the state, this 18-month rental will cost taxpayers $329,581 – and will go into the pockets of former Republican US Senate Candidate Mike McFadden.

Walz sold his Mankato home early in his first term as Governor – fully committing his family to the political role. Because of this, the taxpayer is on the hook for housing the homeless Walz family.

McFadden has largely maintained political irrelevance since his loss to Senator Al Franken in 2014. The arrangement that his property management company and the Governor's office made will be charging Minnesota taxpayers a whopping $17,326 per month for renting the 8,000-square-foot home.

Out of all the homes in Minnesota, it is incredible that Walz will be staying in the home of a major Republican politician. It’s safe to say that the Establishment UniParty is alive and well in Minnesota.

It is also incredible to note that the Minnesota Governor’s Mansion is receiving a $6,000,000 renovation when Zillow estimates it is only worth $1,856,600.

What are taxpayers paying for when the state renovates this property? Sadly, we must wait until September of 2024 to find out. Minnesotans do know, however, that they are paying for a nice vacation property for Governor Walz – while also paying for renovations to his permanent home.
