Fraud has become inseparable from Minnesota politics because it happens so often and has cost taxpayers billions of dollars. Minnesota has fraud from the federal funds it receives, within the state budget, and within local governments. We see yet another example of fraud after Hennepin County’s fund program for businesses supposedly affected by the deportation operation known as Metro Surge was found to be filled with fraudulent applications.

As reported by Kare 11’s Lou Roguse, the program was set to spend $2 Million for grants for local businesses with grants ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 each. The nonprofit reviewing the applications found that an overwhelming number of them were for fake businesses, AI generated businesses, and had multiple businesses with copy & pasted information. Of 300 applications, the county could only verify and pay 82 of them.

Now, Hennepin County is ENDING the program because they are finding so much fraud! They say it is too difficult to differentiate real businesses from fake businesses and that it is easier to just end the program. 

It is no surprise that Minnesota’s government has been seen as a hub for fraudsters to rip off taxpayers since corrupt politicians have allowed it at a massive scale. Fraudsters are emboldened by Minnesota’s fraud regime and saw the Hennepin County program as another way to fool our incompetent government.

Most of the businesses harmed by Operation Metro Surge was due to leftist rioters on the street. It is not the fault of immigration law enforcement that Democrat politicians protect illegal aliens and encouraged radical leftists to riot and cause chaos. Hennepin County is a "sanctuary county" that protects criminal illegal aliens over American citizens.

Action 4 Liberty exposed that in the state legislature RINO Dave Baker was working with Democrats to spend $100 Million on an Operation Metro Surge business reward program that would especially help the twin cities and other "sanctuary" jurisdictions. The program would have likely resulted in more tax dollars wasted on fraudulent endeavors and sought to benefit the left’s pro-illegal alien agenda. The program was not ultimately adopted, likely due in part to A4L pressure.

If Minnesota voters want less fraud, they need less government. The bigger the government is, the more fraud will appear.
