Gun Control Only Happens if Speaker Lisa Demuth and GOP Caves

Minnesota has suffered from two recent, high-profile shooting tragedies. Calls for gun control have emerged since the murder of former Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband with the assassination attempt on Senator John Hoffman and his wife. These calls have since been renewed following the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting, where a transgender maniac killed two young children and seriously injured/hospitalized many more.

During emotional moments of tragedy and heartbreak, anti-gun politicians try to take advantage by infringing on the Rights of law-abiding citizens. Minnesota already has some of the strictest gun control in the nation yet unhinged lunatics showed complete disregard. Criminals do not follow the law as it is and they will not follow any changed law. Gun control did not stop the shootings and more gun control will not change the past. Despite this, unhinged Tim Walz is demanding a special session to attack the 2nd Amendment including an “assault weapons” ban, as if the man who recently wished death upon President Trump cares at all about protecting lives.

With the GOP controlling the state House and Speakership, Walz seemingly faces an immediate blockade against such measures.

The most recent special session used to pass corrupt omnibus bills to finish out the 2nd largest biennial budget in MN history, Walz signed an agreement with House and Senate party leaders laying out the premises and bills to be passed. If a proposed gun control special session were to play out similarly, it would indicate that GOP House Speaker Lisa Demuth would have conceded the fight, even if she herself were to vote no on the proposals on the House floor.

Typical procedure would require legislation to be passed through the House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee in order to receive a floor vote and be designated on the Calendar for the Day. This committee is divided with two Republicans, Harry Niska (31A) and Elliot Engen (36A), and two Democrats, Jamie Long (61B) and Athena Hollins (66B). In a special session, legislative leaders could agree to bypass this and calendar whatever bills they want.

A Declaration of Urgency would seemingly be required to bring legislation forward since it would not meet regular Constitutional procedure of a bill having three readings prior to a floor vote. A Declaration of Urgency requires 90 votes in the House and 45 votes in the Senate.

In whatever procedural style this gun control special session is thrust upon our state, the House GOP remains the only tool to block such efforts. If gun control receives a floor vote in an upcoming special session by means besides Democrats forcing a vote, the responsibility for that would rest on Lisa Demuth’s shoulders. In fact, the GOP agreeing to a special session on gun control at all would be a sign of caving to pressure. Instead, the House GOP must use their leverage to reject any and all gun control.

If a special session were to take place, the priority should be to take on the epidemic of children having over-dependencies on psychoactive pharmaceutical drugs & anti-depressants and removing the ban on conversion counseling for individuals with gender dysphoria (as being pushed by Rep. Drew Roach and Sen. Nathan Wesenberg). Americans elected President Trump in part to combat the big pharma medical establishment with RFK Jr. and the MAHA movement and the displays by the Catholic school shooter shows our state has a major problem with the mental well-being of young people. Meanwhile, President Trump's administration is considering banning transgenders from owning firearms

Sources at the Capitol tell A4L that they do not anticipate a special session due to several factors including legislators being out of state/the country and the special elections in SD29, HD34B, and SD47 (which is likely to cause another special election in 47A since Democrat Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger is favored to win). As things stand ahead of the scheduled special elections, the state Senate is a 33-32 Democrat Majority with two vacancies and the House is a 67-66 GOP Majority with one vacancy. HD34B (Melissa Hortman's district) will have their general election on September 16th. It may very well be that Walz waits until this date to bring the House back to a tie to put more pressure on Demuth to pass his agenda.

Action 4 Liberty knows not to underestimate the pig-headed ego of Tim Walz. If he is on his way out the door and not seeking reelection (as sources have told A4L) then he will not care about any political consequences and will play hardball to get Republicans to support his gun control agenda. We may very well see Walz declare a special session on terms that the House GOP cannot accept. In that case, the House GOP must hold the line and not concede an inch to the radical left ideology of Walz.

Unfortunately, the House GOP is already pushing a school safety plan that includes increased penalties for straw purchases and establishes mandatory minimum prison sentences for repeat gun criminals. That gun control would NOT have stopped the recent tragedies! See below:

This may sound mild but remember that radical Socialist Keith Ellison occupies the MN Attorney General office and has supported gun laws be applied illegitimately like in the case of Walker Anderson. Mandatory minimum policies also remove judicial discretion and could be unreasonably applied. In addition, RINO state Reps Andrew Myers (45A), Jeff Witte (57B), and Mark Weins (41A) (who is no longer in the Legislature) voted for a ban on binary triggers and increasing penalties on transferring firearms illegally. The Gun Owners Caucus (which one would think fights gun control) led by Bryan Strawser helps Democrats make gun control amendments and bills, proving that they are not honest actors and cannot be trusted in this fight.

We should also keep in mind that in 2024 every single Republican with exception to Senator Nathan Wesenberg (SD10) voted to increase penalties on firearm straw purchases. The House version (HF548) and the Senate version (SF733) were the exact same and Democrats opposed it because they preferred to push their own gun control. The correct thing to do was to oppose such gun control regardless of who was pushing it and only Sen. Wesenberg stood up for the 2nd Amendment.

Wesenberg also got massive attention on social media following the Catholic school shooting by releasing a statement that spoke to the hearts of where conservatives are at when we see violence committed by mentally deranged individuals. See below:

Speaker Lisa Demuth is being put to the test and she must be willing to fight Walz and reject a special session. The must refuse the terms of any special session designed for gun control. If Democrats can refuse to show up for the opening weeks of the Legislature, the Republicans can seemingly also refuse to show up. Democrats are willing to engage in dirty politics while RINOs concede every issue. Minnesotans cannot suffer from more gun control because of weak Republicans. GOP politicians must be reminded by Patriots that they will suffer political consequences like losing their next primary election if they go along with gun control, not the other way around.

Action 4 Liberty will continue to hold the line and reject gun control scams. The House GOP has the authority and Majority to reject Tim Walz’ attempt to infringe on law-abiding citizens’ 2nd Amendment Right due to the actions of unhinged lunatics. Conservatives are demanding legislative Republicans hold the line and A4L will lead that cause and keep Patriots informed as more information emerges.
