The Swing Districts that will Determine Control of MN State House

All 134 State House seats are up for grabs in November but control of the House will be decided based on the results of swing district seats. The House currently sits with a 67-67 tie and both parties will be looking to win majority control. In this piece, readers will learn about the 13 swing districts up for grabs and the candidates seeking those seats.

Voters in swing districts will decide which party wins legislative control of Minnesota. Find out what district you are in and who will be on your ballot HERE.

Action 4 Liberty previously reported on the swing district races for MN’s State Senate, which can be read HERE.

Northern Minnesota

District 3B represents portions of Lake and St. Louis counties. This race features incumbent Republican Natalie Zeleznikar, who won the seat in 2022 by 33 votes, defeating longtime State Rep. Mary Murphy, and won reelection in 2024 by 159 votes. Zeleznikar faces Democrat nominee, real estate developer Aaron Schweiger, in the 2026 general election.

District 7B represents a sizable portion of St. Louis County and is currently represented by Republican Cal Warwas. This seat was held by Democrat Dave Lislegard, who chose not to seek reelection in 2024, likely after realizing the voters were sick of his radical left voting record. Warwas is in his first reelection contest and faces Democrat nominee, union laborer Dan Horoshak, in the general election.

District 11A represents all of Carlton County and portions of Pine and St. Louis counties and features incumbent Republican Rep. Jeff Dotseth running for reelection. The district was previously represented by Democrat Mike Sundin, who defeated Dotseth in 2018 and 2020 for the seat. Once Sundin retired, Dotseth was able to win the seat in 2022. All of the contests for this seat between Dotseth and his Democrat opponent have been very close. Democrats see Dotseth as a vulnerable candidate due to allegations of domestic violence and other issues. Dotseth faces Democrat nominee, teacher and Cloquet city councilman Chris Swanson, in the general election.

Central Minnesota

District 14A represents western and south-western St. Cloud and other surrounding localities in Stearns County. Incumbent Republican Rep. Bernie Perryman is running for State Senate against radical leftist Aric Putnam which makes the race an open seat. Republican Mike Conway became his party’s nominee after defeating the party-endorsed candidate, John Jose, in the primary election. Conway faces Democrat nominee Abdi Daisane in the general election. Alpha News has reported that Abdi Daisane’s daycare received $7.2 Million but workers nearby never saw children. Their story also discusses how Daisane’s wife claims to be an illegal alien.

District 14B represents northern St. Cloud and surrounding communities in Benton, Sherburne, and Stearns County. Incumbent Democrat Rep., drunk driver Dan Wolgamott, did not run for re-election and ran for State Auditor, where he received a pathetic 3.2% of the vote at the Democrat state convention. Wolgamott won reelection to the House seat in 2024 by just 191 votes by defeating Republican Sue Eck, who is running again this year. Eck challenges Democrat nominee Zach Dorhold, who previously held this seat for one term from 2012-2014.

Southern Minnesota

District 18A features incumbent Republican Erica Schwartz seeking reelection for a second term. Schwartz defeated then-incumbent Democrat Jeff Brand by 802 votes in 2024. Schwartz will take on social worker Leah Hanson in the general election this year. While many swing district Democrats hide the support they receive from the far-left, Hanson is openly flaunting it on her campaign website.

Distinct 26A represents the eastern section of Winona County, including the city of Winona and surrounding communities. Incumbent Republican Aaron Repinski won the seat in 2024 after longtime Democrat Rep. Gene Pelowski did not seek reelection. Repinski won in 2024 by 1,324 votes but the race may prove to be closer in 2026 against Democrat nominee Dan Wilson.

Metro-Area Minnesota

District 33B covers north-eastern Washington County, including most of Stillwater and everything between Scandia and Oak Park Heights. This district is currently represented by radical Democrat Josiah Hill, who votes with Democrats in lockstep on any vote of importance. Hill is being challenged by Republican Jessica Johnson, a business owner and realtor, for a second time. Johnson was just 718 votes short of Hill in 2024. Johnson has been subjected to classless attacks by Democrats, including a halloween display featuring her campaign literature in a guillotine.

District 41A covers south-eastern Washington County, including from Grant down to Afton and parts of Cottage Grove. The district is currently represented by Republican Wayne Johnson, who won in 2024 by 327 votes. Johnson has gone out of his way to oppose A4L efforts to shrink government, which may make it difficult for him to win over some grassroots conservatives. On the other hand, Johnson did propose a Constitutional amendment that would return surplus dollars to taxpayers. Johnson faces Democrat nominee, attorney Cole Birkeland, in the 2026 general election.

District 41B represents parts of Cottage Grove and most of Hastings along with surrounding communities in Washington and Dakota counties. The district is currently represented by Republican Tom Dippel, who is running for State Senate against radical leftist Judy Seeberger. Grassroots conservative William Beck is running for the seat in 2026 against Democrat Jen Fox. As seen in previous A4L reporting, Democrats sent out a mailer for Fox that falsely claimed she has 5 children when she actually has zero (while William Beck has two children). Beck has received very little outside help in his race while Fox has received over $339,000 in support from independent expenditures. If William Beck loses, it will almost certainly be because the Republican Party failed to adequately support his campaign.

District 48B represents a large portion of Carver County, including Chanhassen and parts of Chaska. Radical Democrat Lucille Rehm is the incumbent after winning in 2024 by just 225 votes. Rehm has not voted differently from the Democrat caucus on any vote of substance. Republican nominee, Army National Guard officer Caleb Steffenhagen, is running in a rematch after losing the race in 2024.

District 54A covers the vast majority of the city of Shakopee in Scott County. This seat is currently represented by radical Democrat Brad Tabke, who won the seat by just 15 votes in 2024. Controversy surrounded this seat because 21 ballots were trashed in the district, which could have changed the outcome of the race. Though RINO Speaker Lisa Demuth made a deal with Democrats to seat him, Shakopee voters may choose a different path. Republican nominee, police officer Aaron Paul, is challenging Tabke for a second time in this race.

District 57B represents the majority of the city of Lakeville in Dakota County. Incumbent Republican Jeff Witte is seeking reelection and is facing a rematch with Democrat Brian Cohn. Witte won the seat by 676 votes in 2022 and was reelected by 1,261 votes in 2024.

There are five other Republican-held seats that could flip if 2026 is a blue tsunami year. This includes the following GOP candidates and districts: Roger Skraba (3A), Danny Nadeau (34A), Sebastian Stoss (36A), Tom McKee (37A), and Andrew Myers (45A).

Democrats have a massive financial advantage in the MN House and Senate elections. As seen in the graphic below, Democrat legislative committees have fundraised over $10 Million more than Republican legislative committees:
