All 67 State Senate seats are up for grabs this year with Democrats hoping to expand their one person majority and Republicans hoping to retake the majority. Though the Senate races will take place in every district across the state, the vast majority of districts are safe blue or safe red districts that are nearly impossible to flip. This leaves just 13 Senate districts that were decided by less than 10% in 2022.
Of the 13 districts that could be considered “swing” or “purple” areas, 7 have incumbent Republicans and 6 have incumbent Democrats. 12 of the 13 districts feature incumbents seeking reelection, with only Republican Warren Limmer opting to retire.
Below is a list of each of these 13 districts, listed in order of the size of their 2022 margin of victory. See below:
Jim Abeler (R-35) - 0.54%
Judy Seeberger (D-41) - 0.75%
Grant Hauschild (D-3) - 1.62%
Aric Putnam (D-14) - 4.70%
Karin Housley (R-33) - 5.64%
Heather Gustafson (D-36) - 5.68%
Bill Lieske (R-58) - 5.68%
Rob Kupec (D-4) - 5.69%
Michael Kruen (R-32) - 5.98%
Rob Farnsworth (R-7) - 6.99%
Julia Coleman (R-48) - 8.72%
John Hoffman (D-34) - 9.82%
Warren Limmer (R-37) - 9.84%
Control of the State Senate will boil down to the districts listed above.
Despite being in swing districts, all Democrat Senators have voted in lock-step on every vote of significance. Democrats who purport to be moderate including Judy Seeberger, Grant Hauschild, Aric Putnam, and Rob Kupec are in TOTAL alignment with radical socialists on every issue across the board. Even further, Seeberger and Putnam endorsed socialist Omar Fateh for Minneapolis Mayor while he pushed an agenda including defunding the police, raising taxes, imposing an illegal alien sanctuary city policy, no cooperation with ICE, letting drug-addicted homeless people to infect the streets, and shutting down HERC while Hennepin County has no landfills.
There is not a single Democrat Senator who goes against their party on issues including child transgender mutilation, late-term/post-birth abortion, Executive oversight, Somali fraud, gun control, or any other policy pushed by the far left. All Senate Democrats even voted to change the MN Human Rights Act to protect pedophilia as a sexual orientation.
These frauds do not even pretend to be moderate, they are just hoping that voters are not paying attention!
On the other hand, grassroots conservatives are often disappointed at GOP legislators for caving to the left and refusing to fight back. As seen in A4L scorecards, RINOs like Jim Abeler work with Democrats to pass unconstitutional fraud-ridden omnibus bills, protect Covid tyrants, install Democrats in legislative leadership roles, and attending far left protests. Despite Abeler caving to the left at nearly every turn, Democrats are holding nothing back in their fight to replace him.
Many Republicans see the State Senate as the best opportunity to retake a legislative body and prevent Democrat trifecta control.
