Establishment Rep. Walter Hudson Says He did not Consent to Special Session Deal

Upon the news of the special session agreement reached by Uniparty leaders, grassroots conservatives across our state were fed up and felt completely backstabbed. The deal pushes the 2nd largest budget in MN history, wastes billions upon billions in tax dollars, adopts liberal policies, rushes 14 bills in a single day, and demands legislators not speak or bring amendments on the floor. This apparently has not just upset conservatives but it has even irritated Establishment Republicans like Walter Hudson (30A).

Hudson posted on X on Sunday, June 8th that he did not “consent” to the special session deal. Also note former Senate GOP leader RINO Paul Gazelka trying to justify secret discussions between legislative party leaders and Walz. Easy to say when you used to be one of the select Uniparty members in the room! See below:

This may come as a surprise because Hudson has come to the defense for the surplus-killing GOP budget proposal and has voted for several unconstitutional omnibus bills this session. However, all politicians want control and the ability to have things done their way; In this case, Hudson knows that the House GOP got served a raw deal from Demuth and Walz.

Hudson’s coming to Jesus moment may simply be for show and to portray himself as a conservative when in reality, he will do nothing to actually fight or stop the package. If Demuth was short one vote on a bill, Hudson would almost certainly be a vote she goes to flip. It seems unlikely that Hudson will present Amendments to the body against the wishes of Lisa Demuth or that he would use procedural tactics to delay and slow down the process. There is almost no chance Hudson does anything to threaten the GOP leadership’s power. If he is willing to do so, we would love being proven wrong.

In addition, Hudson was a supporter of the deal with Democrats at the beginning of session which protected radical Democrat Brad Tabke (54A) from having his election certificate revoked due to election fraud where more ballots were thrown away in his district by election officials than what the margin of victory was. Hudson went on the attack against A4L for an article exposing the corrupt deal with false smears, demands that our supporters be banned from the party, and even attempting to blame our organization for the GOP losing the 40B race by over 40 percentage points! Hudson’s vote and support of those rules blocked the GOP from winning a swing district seat which would have given House Republicans a real majority.

We owe a MASSIVE thank you to all A4L supporters for putting the pressure on their legislators, holding their feet to the fire, and making it politically toxic to support the deal. Conservatives across our state demanding a higher standard from their elected officials is the role of vigilant citizenship and there is no doubt that it is moving the needle and causing GOP legislators to turn on the deal.

Conservative Senator Nathan Wesenberg (SD10) put out a strong statement calling out the corruption which was shared in support by Rep. Marj Fogleman (21B). Hudson then posted it on X with commentary where it appears Hudson is referring to (admitting) himself as the establishment that will align with the grassroots on these votes (despite Hudson's previous claim that there was no such thing as an Establishment in Minnesota). See below:

In addition to Wesenberg, Rep. Drew Roach (58B) put out a strong statement calling out the corruption of the Uniparty special session agreement. See below:

Other establishment Republicans like Elliot Engen have even gone on record against this deal. Our sources at the Capitol tell A4L that the vast majority of the caucus is LIVID with the deal and will be opposing the rules suspension and most omnibus bills. GOP Reps should feel insulted that Demuth wants to strip away their ability to legislate with a deal that they never signed off on. Now she demands they vote with her for all of the corruption.

Conservative legislators can FIGHT the corruption by rejecting the plans to suspend the rules and by voting against the corrupt omnibus policy and spending bills. Shutting down Walz’ government may be EXACTLY what our state needs in order to reassess out of control spending. In addition, the Uniparty special session deal does not prohibit amendments on the floor, it simply says leadership must oppose them. This means that members can and should introduce amendments to reduce spending, gut woke policies, and insert conservative policies. If you want your legislators to know this, you can find their contact info here.

Action 4 Liberty will continue to expose corruption and stand as the much needed bulldog for limited government in our state. The unconstitutional deal pushed by the Uniparty should be rejected far and wide. Groups like A4L have led in the fight the corruption and we now see fake conservatives like Walter Hudson tagging along out of necessity. We encourage all legislators to stand up to corrupt party leaders force-feeding them unconstitutional, big government omnibus bills and standing ready for a government shutdown battle against Walz.
